EVERY NC ROCKS JEWEL TELLS A TALE. CRAFTED BY HAND IN A WORKSHOP USING 18K GOLD, PRECIOUS GEMSTONES, DIAMONDS AND VIBRANT ENAMELS, IT REVEALS THE COLLECTIVE STORY OF ITS CREATORS: MOTHER-DAUGHTER TEAM NADINE HAMMOUD AND CHERINE ALTOBAISHI.

Theirs is a narrative that spans the globe, weaving together international influences from Lebanon and London – Saudi Arabia, Los Angeles and Dubai. NC Rocks is the synthesis of Nadine and Cherine’s individual stories, their combined inspirations and an expression of their rare bond. These perspectives manifest in fine jewelry that transcends generational boundaries to establish a shared language.

Timeless in style and modern in expression, NC Rocks creations recall the abstract musings of artists like Al Held and Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian. They honor the stylized ornamentation of art deco, the contoured fashions of the 30s and 50s, and the liberal, versatile vibe of the 70s. Blue hues tell stories of the sea, peace and prosperity – and combat the evil eye. Bold colors evoke sunsets, memorialize emotions and inject an undercurrent of rock-and-roll, freedom-seeking rebellion. Geometric motifs reference tribal tattoos and ancient henna rituals while exquisite stones radiate the magnificence of nature and the magnitude of eternity. These eclectic inspirations are distilled into minimalist motifs designed to stand out and make a statement.

But this is just the first chapter in the unfolding legend of each NC Rocks ring, bracelet, ear cuff or pendant. Its wearers will write its future. Each will embellish the jewel with ephemeral stories that, encapsulated by the piece, become enduring. When an NC Rocks jewel leaves the workshop, it marks the end of the beginning and the beginning of a legacy.

NC Rocks founders Nadine Hammoud and Cherine Altobaishi are a mother-daughter team currently based in Dubai, but their multi-generational story spans the globe.

Nadine was born in Lebanon and as a child moved to London. Here, her creativity flourished, fed by the city’s diverse culture and history. Nadine’s early interest in jewelry disclosed her innate artistic inclinations and the influence of her elegant, glamorous grandmother and mother, an abstract painter, who layered themselves in jewels. Inspired by the embellishment, Nadine began crafting her own accessories, scouring markets in search of trinkets – tiny swords or symbols – that she would turn into charms. Years later, on a pilgrimage to Mecca, this found-object artistry developed further. Along her route, nadine collected blessed stones that she transformed into jewelry, which sold out immediately. And while she was living in Saudi Arabia, this same distinctive creativity gained Nadine a following among friends, who relied upon her art, interior decoration and styling skills. The synthesis of these experiences eventually led Nadine to found eponymous fashion and jewelry lines.

As a child Cherine, too, observed the ancestral rite of watching her grandmother and mother adorn themselves with signature accessories. Consequently, her appreciation for exquisite pieces–ranging from vintage Bvlgari and Cartier to Schiapparelli–developed early on. She would soak up Nadine’s style and dream of the day she would possess her own collection of jewels. Along with a love for jewelry, Cherine also inherited her mother’s appreciation and natural capacity for creativity. She delved into painting, fashion, interior decoration and music. She traveled the world, admiring beautiful homes, sculptures, shapes and form – and soon gained her own legion of friends who revered her evolved aesthetic. Combining her mother’s learnings with her own worldly experiences, Cherine began to sketch jewelry designs, which she would share with Nadine. When, as an adult,Cherine moved from Los Angeles, where she had been pursuing singing and various artistic endevours, to Dubai, where Nadine was living, this tradition of collaboration resumed. Nadine would help prepare Cherine for a night out, selecting for her the perfect accessory and revealing its history – from Paris, Morocco and beyond. Cherine would, in turn, divulge the new experience she had while wearing the jewel.

The exchange highlighted not only the pair’s strong bond but also the totemic power of jewelry – and the passion for ornamentation that had been passed down through their family for generations. This revelation inspired them to create NC Rocks: a platform upon which they could express their collective vision and expand their legacy.
